FRIDAY Get set for this most interesting autumn adventure to the Mississipi. Days end finds us in Madison, SATURDAY Let's explore Madison with a local guide, the highlights will be the ornate state capitol building and the farmers market. Late afternoon finds us in the small river town of Winona, Minnesota. (CB) SUNDAY All aboard the riverboat Celebration Belle for an all day cruise on the Mississippi from Winona, MN to Prairie du Chien, WI. The time passes easily on the river with entertainment; games and all meals aboard ship today. The ship passes through several locks and dams as it heads south. Our captain shares river stories and lore about the sights and towns that meander by. The color along the river should be just terrific at this time of year. Early evening finds us in Prairie du Chien for our overnight stay. (CB,L,D) MONDAY The journey continues south this morning by motorcoach to Dubuque, Iowa. A local historian will guide us on a tour of this river city rich in history and tradition. A delicious lunch is served in the historic Ryan House and then the afternoon is spent at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. This facility is part of the Smithsonian Institution. Later this afternoon, take a ride on the Fenelon Place Elevator, the world's steepest scenic railway that elevates passengers 296 feet from 4th street to Fenelon Place. The view of the river form the top is magnificent. Our accommodations this evening are adjacent to the Greyhound Park Casino for those who like a bit of gambling. (CB,L) TUESDAY All aboard the Celebration Belle again for another relaxing day cruising south on the mighty Mississippi from Dubuque to Moline, IL. The cruise may be the same, but the scenery is totally new. A new chapter unfolds around each bend in the river and each town that we pass. Evening finds us at the cozy and comfortable Stoney Creek Inn; watch out, we hear there's a moose on the loose here.
